‘I have been teaching for over 20 years both in the classroom and privately on a one to one basis, my approach to each student is different based on fulfilling that student’s individual needs. Not every student will be a concert pianist or famous touring artist, however I endeavour to show every student the amazing power that music can have and the many many benefits learning an instrument can give both to the individual and those around them. I have taught a multitude of students with varying talents and abilities, many with a wide range of learning abilities, difficulties or as I prefer challenges!
I’m always happy to discuss any queries you may have. If you want to play for pleasure, work towards exams (AMEB or other), be the next Diva, get that song finished that’s been bugging you, write a masterpiece or simply just work ‘that darn bit out’ I’m here to help. Please note you don’t have to do exams to become a great pianist, trumpeter, trombonist, songwriter etc., they are useful if you want to go on to study music at a higher (eg.University) level to give people an idea of your standard you’re at but they are by no means compulsory. What you do need is the desire to learn and have a sense of humour – especially if you want to learn with me! I teach and perform a variety of styles from classical through to Jazz, blues and contemporary. I feel it’s very important to offer students with a varied repertoire of music as it can really help inspire and keep their interest. I can introduce elements of musical theory and aural exercise as you develop (not compulsory-sometimes useful however) .I have assisted countless students in developing their improvisational and compositional skills.
Maintaining the discipline of practice is key, this enables continued progress and leads to greater satisfaction. However the key thing to remember is learning music should be fun and that is at the centre of my approach.
